Robert Powell’s deep roots in the Birmingham property industry date back to the early 1920’s. Below is a brief introduction to who’s who within the practice:
James Powell MRICS
James qualified as a Chartered Surveyor in 1999 having spent two years dealing in commercial agency and property management. He subsequently spent three years working for a national property development company acquiring and procuring development opportunities. He joined Robert Powell in January 2003 to head-up the residential sales team and some 10 years later he completed a management buyout of the business. Born and raised in Edgbaston, James has built up a strong local knowledge and a comprehensive network of contacts.
James began his career with Andrew Grant Country Homes in Worcester in the early 1990's. He subsequently spent 11 years working in the Birmingham office of Knight Frank focussing on selling high-end properties in and around South Birmingham. On the back of his success at Knight Frank and with a loyal client base he set up Bowkett Briggs in Edgbaston, a boutique style estate agency that quickly flourished. In 2014 he joined Robert Powell as part of a merger between the two firms where his unrivalled experience and knowledge of the local market proves invaluable.
Rachel Ireland LL.B (Hons) MARLA
Director, Residential Lettings
Rachel helped to set up Robert Powell Residential Lettings Limited in 2001 and was instrumental in its rapid success. A graduate in law, Rachel has an intelligent and logical approach to dealing with problems which combines with her extensive knowledge of the local lettings market to make her a most valuable asset to the business.
Christine Williams LL.B (Hons)
Having previously been a partner in a city centre law firm, Christine joined Robert Powell as a full time sales negotiator in 1999. Whilst she no longer practices law, her legal background often proves useful when conveyancing issues arise, or when other legal problems threaten to hamper the sale or purchase of a property. An Edgbaston resident for most of her life, Christine is well connected in the area and her local knowledge is second to none.
Sunil Jaswal LL.B (Hons)
Sunil qualified as a Solicitor in 2008, before joining Robert Powell in 2013 to pursue his passion for property. Having acted as a solicitor for both residential and commercial property clients his legal background enables him to give valued on-the-ground assistance to both purchasers and vendors. Sunil now heads up the city centre office where he is able to use his enthusiasm and local knowledge to provide a high level of service to our clients.
Moira has been a key member of the Robert Powell team for over 20 years. Her role within the organisation has evolved over time, moving from administration and accounts to residential sales to new homes sales. After a brief spell away from the company, Moira returned to join the residential lettings team in 2010 where her broad skills and knowledge developed over the years are put to very good use.
Sarah joined the residential lettings side in 2014 as an apprentice negotiator and through her good organisational skills and enthusiasm for the role she quickly became an indispensable member of the team. She has successfully completed an NVQ2 in Business Administration and is now commencing an NVQ3 in the same subject.
When you phone our office it may well be Val who takes your call. However, having worked for over 15 years with two national house builders as an on site sales negotiator, she is far more than just our friendly face on reception. Since joining us in 2001 Val has become an integral part of the private house sales team, utilising her previous experience to deal efficiently with sales enquiries. She has also been known to make appearances at the various New Homes on site sales centres to cover staff shortages in an emergency.
Robert Powell FRICS
Robert qualified as a Chartered Surveyor in the late 1960’s and specialised in the sale and purchase of private houses in the middle to top end of the Midlands market. As well as his extensive knowledge of the private house market, Robert is also an expert in land assembly, land acquisition and land disposal. He has acted for local and national developers, as well as individual landowners looking to maximise the value of their property holdings.
Nick Russell MRICS
Nick joined as a consultant in March 2012 having previously run the agricultural department of a major firm of international property consultants for some 16 years. He specialises in agricultural management and has extensive knowledge of compensation legislation following the exercise of compulsory powers and has acted both for acquiring authorities and private individuals in this capacity.
Nick Churton MNAEA
Mayfair Office Director
Based in our Mayfair Office, Nick has been immersed in the UK residential property market for over forty years. After training in London with Chestertons he went on to become a partner of a large estate agency firm in the Home Counties. Following the firm’s sale in 1988 to a leading insurance company Nick became their London based national sales director. Later he headed the property advertising team at Country Life magazine. Since then he has fulfilled an ambition to provide a clear and effective media and marketing lead within the residential property industry. With a growing list of global clients Nick offers both inbound and outbound investors with hands-on support and a valuable source of knowledge and on-the-ground assistance that inevitably saves clients time and money.

Annette has been involved in residential estate agency since leaving school over 30 years ago. Annette has always enjoyed a loyal and enthusiastic client base that values her experience and dedication. She has run her own three-office estate agency in Hertfordshire and is now a director of Mayfair Office Ltd. Successfully blending a creative and well-informed approach to property marketing Annette's in-depth knowledge of the UK market benefits buyers, sellers and estate agents from around the world.

Susan has many years experience working in both estate and land agency. Today she is one of the leading property advertising and PR specialists working in the UK. Her years spent handling clients’ advertising needs have given her an in-depth knowledge of print media advertising throughout the UK. Through her high volume advertising she is able to pass on to clients special reduced rates available only through Mayfair Office. Susan’s sharp eye for copy, production, display and contract negotiation helps keep clients’ profiles and activity high whilst carefully controlling costs. Susan is also a specialist in residential property PR and is a popular and respected source of information, opinion and material for journalists working within the national press.
