About Us Robert Powell & Co is an independent firm of Chartered Surveyors and Estate Agents, established in 1985. The company is made up of a diverse team of experienced individuals available to offer professional advice across a broad range of property related matters. Below is a brief introduction to who’s who within the practice: | Robert Powell FRICS, Partner Robert qualified as a Chartered Surveyor in the late 1960’s and specialised in the sale and purchase of private houses in the middle to top end of the Midlands market. As well as his extensive knowledge of the private house market, Robert is also an expert in land assembly, land acquisition and land disposal. He has acted, and continues to act, for local and national developers, as well as individual landowners looking to maximise the value of their property holdings. | | James Powell MRICS, Partner James qualified as a Chartered Surveyor in 1999 having spent two years dealing in commercial agency and property management. He subsequently spent three years working for a national development company acquiring and procuring development opportunities. He joined Robert Powell & Co in January 2003 to become involved in all aspects of the practice, but primarily to utilise his development experience to assemble and introduce land opportunities to developer clients, and to offer disposal advice to landowners. He also heads up the Private House Sales Department. | | | Nigel Thompson FRICS, Consultant Consultant to Robert Powell & Co since 1996, Nigel has been a chartered surveyor for over 30 years, the last 25 of which have been spent primarily dealing with strategic and operational property management across various sectors. He was previously Chief Executive of the Calthorpe Estate, a major Birmingham landowner with over fifteen hundred acres and several million square feet of commercial and residential premises. | | | Tony Birtles FRICS, Consultant Formerly a director of a major firm of international property consultants, Tony joined us as a consultant in 1992 and offers over 40 years of experience in the industry. Now specialising in commercial and agricultural estate management, his broad range of expertise in many other areas of the profession is also called upon for specialist work. Amongst other things, this has included negotiating and acquiring easements and wayleaves on behalf of national companies for major projects such as motorways and pipelines. | | David Houghton FRICS FASI ACIOB, Consultant David has over 30 years experience of the property market – the vast majority of that being in the Midlands, although he has also worked extensively in the Devon and Cornwall area. He qualified as a chartered surveyor in 1973 and has since specialised in survey and valuation work on residential, industrial and commercial properties. | | Kate Taylor ANAEA, Associate Kate has been with the company for 14 years during which time she has dealt with hundreds of property sales, including some of Birmingham’s finest houses. As a local resident, Kate knows a large number of our clients and purchasers personally, and her local knowledge is second to none. | | Christine Williams LLB, Sales Negotiator Having previously been a partner in a city centre law firm, Christine joined Robert Powell & Co as a full time sales negotiator in 1999. Whilst she no longer practices law, her legal background often proves useful when conveyancing issues arise, or when other legal problems threaten to hamper the sale or purchase of a property. | | Carol Warren, Residential Lettings Carol originally joined Robert Powell & Co in 1994 as an on site negotiator for our New Homes division, based in Barnt Green and the City Centre. She joined the Private House Sales team in 1996, specialising in the re-sale of apartments in Harborne, Edgbaston and the City Centre. In September 2003 she moved across to our lettings department where her detailed knowledge of the City's many apartment schemes is proving invaluable. | | Sue Morris, Sales Negotiator Sue joined Robert Powell & Co in 1998 bringing with her twelve years experience as a sales negotiator in the local private house market. Born and bred in Edgbaston, where she still lives today, Sue’s wealth of local knowledge is a major asset to our Private House Sales team. | | Rachel Williams, Associate Director, Residential Lettings With a degree in law, Rachel is a useful addition to the lettings team. Ever since she joined the company in 2001 she has been instrumental in its development and success. Her experience and hard work has lead to her appointment as Associate Director and head of the department. | | | Val Ward, Reception When you phone our office it will more than likely be Val who takes your call. However, having worked for over 15 years with two national house builders as an on site sales negotiator, she is far more than just our friendly face on reception. Since joining us two years ago Val has become an integral part of the private house sales team, utilising her previous experience to deal efficiently with sales enquiries. She has also been known to make appearances at the various New Homes on site sales centres to cover staff shortages in an emergency. |
