Robert Powell is an independent firm of Chartered Surveyors and Estate Agents, established in 1985. The company is made up of a diverse team of well educated and experienced individuals available to offer professional advice across a broad range of property related matters. Below is a brief introduction to who’s who within the practice:
Robert Powell FRICS,
Partner
Robert qualified as a Chartered Surveyor in the late 1960’s and specialised in the sale and purchase of private houses in the middle to top end of the Midlands market. As well as his extensive knowledge of the private house market, Robert is also an expert in land assembly, land acquisition and land disposal. He has acted for local and national developers, as well as individual landowners looking to maximise the value of their property holdings.
James Powell MRICS,
Partner
James qualified as a Chartered Surveyor in 1999 having spent two years dealing in commercial agency and property management. He subsequently spent three years working for a national development company acquiring and procuring development opportunities. He joined Robert Powell in January 2003 to become involved in all aspects of the practice but his primary role, other than the day to day running of the business, is to head-up the residential sales team. Born and raised in Edgbaston, James has built up a strong local knowledge and a comprehensive network of contacts.

Nigel Thompson FRICS,
Consultant
Consultant to Robert Powell since 1996, Nigel has been a chartered surveyor for over 35 years, the last 30 of which have been spent primarily dealing with strategic and operational property management across various sectors. He previously headed up the Calthorpe Estate, a major Birmingham landowner with over fifteen hundred acres and several million square feet of commercial and residential premises. Nigel is also a director of Robert Powell Residential Lettings.

Tony Birtles FRICS,
Consultant
Formerly a director of a major firm of international property consultants, Tony joined us as a consultant in 1992 and offers over 45 years of experience in the industry. Now specialising in commercial and agricultural estate management, his broad range of expertise in many other areas of the profession is also called upon for specialist work. Amongst other things, this has included negotiating and acquiring easements and wayleaves on behalf of national companies for major projects such as motorways and pipelines.

Christine Williams LLB (Hons),
Associate
Having previously been a partner in a city centre law firm, Christine joined Robert Powell as a full time sales negotiator in 1999. Whilst she no longer practices law, her legal background often proves useful when conveyancing issues arise, or when other legal problems threaten to hamper the sale or purchase of a property. An Edgbaston resident for most of her life, Christine is well connected in the area and her local knowledge is second to none.

Rachel Ireland LLB (Hons) MARLA,
Director, Residential Lettings
Rachel helped to set up Robert Powell Residential Lettings Limited in 2001 and was instrumental in its rapid success. A graduate in law, Rachel has an intelligent and logical approach to dealing with problems which combines with her extensive knowledge of the local lettings market to make her a most valuable asset to the business.

James Strahan BA (Hons), Pg Dip, MRICS,
Surveyor
With a degree in criminology James was not always destined for the property world. A change of direction in 2007 however brought him into the residential lettings team where he quickly flourished. In 2008 he joined the residential sales department and decided to further his education obtaining a Postgraduate Diploma in Real Estate Management. Following a great deal of hard work James qualified as a Chartered Surveyor in April 2011 and is now able to undertake a variety of professional work in addition to his main role in residential sales.
Olivia Cox BA (Hons),
Sales Negotiator
Olivia joined the sales team in 2010 having previously worked in a busy residential lettings company in Cardiff. The daughter of a leading Warwickshire surveyor, Olivia has seemingly inherited her father’s flair for property and has quickly shown herself to be a natural and talented sales negotiator.
Sara Horton LLB (Hons),
Residential Lettings
Sara studied Law at Nottingham Law School, graduating in 2007. Opting to go into property rather than law, she joined the Robert Powell residential lettings team in 2008. Sara has a real talent for letting properties and is known for her quick thinking and excellent problem solving skills.

Moira Tooke,
Residential Lettings
Moira has been a key member of the Robert Powell team for over 20 years. Her role within the organisation has evolved over time, moving from administration and accounts to residential sales to new homes sales. After a brief spell away from the company, Moira returned to join the residential lettings team in 2010 where her broad skills and knowledge developed over the years are put to very good use.
